The Mochi Masterclass

Mochi, or No Mai Ci in Cantonese, is a popular dessert all over East Asia, most commonly known as a steamed sweet rice dough with a wide array of fillings, such as red bean paste, peanut butter, or ice cream. But did you know you can also bake and boil mochi?

Join Seattle’s only Mochi Masterclass where you get to learn three ways to make this popular, naturally gluten-free Asian dessert. During the class, Elaine will share her mom’s secrets for a fabulously fluffy mochi dough that stays soft for days, plus essential tips on how to easily wrap the mochi and incorporate different flavors and fillings — from the traditional Mochi with Red Bean Paste to a more conventional twist of Chocolate Mochi with Fresh Strawberries. You will also learn her mom’s favorite Crispy Baked Mochi Cake that is popular in Taiwan during Chinese New Year. Also popular in Hong Kong during Chinese New Year is Tong Yuen 湯圓(or Tong1 Jyun2), which is a Mochi with Gooey Black Sesame, Served in Warm Ginger Syrup. This class is taught as both gluten-free and vegan.
